It is safe to visit the Shrine!
Our Shrine of St. Jude is located in the Church of St. Pius V on the corner of 19th Street and Ashland Avenue, on Chicago’s near southwest side (Pilsen neighborhood). While you may have heard that Chicago is a violent city or that the south side of Chicago is dangerous, our neighborhood is safe to visit. In fact, the Pilsen neighborhood is undergoing gentrification and was named by Forbes magazine in June 2018 as one of the 12 coolest neighborhoods to visit around the world. That's right…around the world!
Not only is our neighborhood a safe place to visit, it has some amazing restaurants that we encourage you to patronize as well. In fact, just two blocks away from the Shrine on Blue Island Ave is a restaurant run by El Milagro tortilla company that has some of the best Mexican food you will ever eat!
Unfortunately, we do suffer from a lack of private parking to offer you. Nor is there a parking garage anywhere in the neighborhood. Parking is available on the streets surrounding the Shrine.
Shrine services begin at noon and 6:30pm every Thursday of the year except Thanksgiving Day and Holy Thursday.
Each service begins with a recitation of the Rosary and prayers for the St. Jude Novena.
Confession is offered during the recitation of the Rosary.
Mass begins approximately 20 minutes after the service starts (12:20pm and 6:50pm respectively).
Following Mass there is an opportunity to venerate the Shrine's relic of St. Jude Thaddeus approximately 50 minutes after the service starts (12:50pm and 7:20pm respectively)
