I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Jn 8:12
A lit candle serves as a reminder of Christ, who is the light of the world, yet the light itself also speaks to us of knowledge (illumination) and sacrifice (the flame consumes the candle).
We invite you to light a candle at the Shrine of St. Jude. Just as the flame speaks to us of Christ and knowledge and sacrifice, it also represents the prayer or petition you send us. As the candle burns and remains lit, so too does the flame repeat your prayer again and again to God.
Important Announcement (Jan. 2019)
Visitors to the Dominican Shrine of St. Jude, whether in person or online, often ask us to light a candle for their intentions and provide a stipend to the Shrine. We then install a little brass plaque in front of it with their name and intention; quite a difficult, time-consuming process now limited to patrons willing to light a candle for an entire year or longer.
New technology has arrived to make this much faster and easier! Instead of a custom-made, single-use brass plaque, I am beyond ecstatic to move ahead with a project to put an e-paper display of approximately the same dimensions as the old-fashioned brass plaques in front of each candle. Once completed, a couple of computer keystrokes will be all it takes to light a candle with your intention for a day, a week, a month, a year or any other period of time you want!
Until this new technology is up and running we are suspending the sale of candles. We hope to resume making candles available to you in the Spring.
