Pray with us means both let us pray for you and inviting you to pray for others. Either way, it involves members of the Body of Christ praying for one another which is the very definition of intercessory prayer. You might be interested to know that, on average, about 75% of all the prayer requests received by the Shrine are for the benefit of someone other than the person requesting the prayers. That means patrons of the Shrine are very familiar with and invested in intercessory prayer. Intercessory prayer is also, in fact, closely associated with the Dominican Order! Why? Well, why does a Dominican do anything? The answer is “for the salvation of souls!” Our constitutions begin by saying “The Order of Friars Preachers, founded by St. Dominic, is known to have been established, from the beginning, for preaching and the salvation of souls, specifically.” We pray for the salvation of our own souls to be sure, but our prayer is largely directed outward toward the world and the salvation of every soul that God has ordained from the foundation of the world to be saved.
