Dominicans say the rosary according to an ancient custom which is slightly different from the way most Catholics say it. In fact, the Dominican way of praying the rosary is far more ancient than the contemporary way and is based upon the Liturgy of the Hours (which is also known as the prayer of the Church). Please also keep in mind that due to its ancient heritage, Dominicans do not recite the Fatima prayer or the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel as these are 20th century additions.
The leader and group begin the Rosary with the sign of the cross. Then they lead and respond alternately the parts for the opening prayers.
The leader announces the title of each Mystery (and may give a short mediation). The leader starts the prayers for the first, third and fifth mysteries and prays the first half of the Our Father, each Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. The group recites the second half of the prayers.
After the leader announces the titles of the second and fourth Mysteries, the group starts the prayers and pray the first half of the Our father, each Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. The leader recites the second half of the prayers.
At each prayers which conclude the rosary, the leader and the whole group alternate the responses as indicated.
